Gameplay in Kill It With Fire
Kill It With Fire is packed with dozens of weapons and just as many creepy crawlies to keep you entertained for hours. Each level progressively pumps up the number of spiders you have to track down and exterminate, as well as the difficulty of puzzles you need to solve to advance through each level. If you are anything like myself, and you enjoy causing chaos, Kill It With Fire should be on your radar.
Players become a licensed Kill It With Fire exterminator, fighting back against mankind’s multi-legged nemesis. Though each level is timed, making speed-running possible, you can be as thorough as you like. There’s no rush to race through the levels, which makes locating and completing each objective manageable.
However, as you progress through each level and your arsenal of arachnid-tracking technology grows, players will face off against multiple different spider types. The web-shooting spiders will forever be my personal worst enemy, as they can temporarily blind players and make smacking them with a clipboard almost impossible. They become the least of your concerns as you advance through each level.
Perhaps one of the more challenging aspects of Kill It With Fire, the arachno-gauntlets give you a chance to test your exterminator skills with the added pressure of a clock. Though the gauntlets are fast-paced, it still pays to strategize beforehand— and often come back with better weapon upgrades— as they aren’t all as simple as “burn it all to the ground.” I do recommend the gauntlets for players who are looking to up the challenge of the overall game, as you are required to complete all level objectives to unlock each gauntlet. The addition of a very short and quick timer and the switch to fast-paced metal music gets the adrenaline pumping.
The gauntlets can, however, be a bit of a challenge for players who enjoy slower-paced combat styles. I myself fell into this category on a few of the gauntlets. For this type of playstyle, the objectives and spider hunting alone, are still more than enough to make Kill It With Fire an enjoyable game.
Final Thoughts on Kill It With Fire
Overall Kill It With Fire, is the perfect game for someone looking to let off a little steam or even someone who just really dislikes spiders. It clocked in at around 4 hours (with a completionist run), though speed-running can definitely cut that time down. The art style is bright, which has a fun contrast against the amount of chaos that is going on. The little hidden details that form a larger story web, rewards players who choose to take their time, which in a game where there is so much chaos going on pays off in a climactic finish.
