OVERVIEW

In Legends of Astravia players will explore dungeons and face dynamic combat encounters while trying to uncover their past. Legends of Astravia is a retro-style 2D RPG and is influenced by 90s and early 2000s-era JRPGs. Players take on the role of Oliver, a wandering mage, on a quest to prevent another cataclysm.

Gameplay in the Legends of Astravia Demo

Combat in Legends of Astravia is great, and easy to get used to. Like most RPGs players can attack, cast spells, use items, and defend, and these impact initiatives. I appreciate the initiative timer moving and visually showing how certain choices change combat pacing. This greatly helps with planning tactics with multiple party members and large enemy parties. This gives players a lot more freedom in combat encounters.

Navigating around the world is smooth, especially for a demo. I did not have any issues getting around and exploring at my own pace. There are also plenty of hidden chests and barrels, that reward exploration. There are fun little interactions players can find by interacting with seemingly normal items, such as scarecrows, that are easter eggs.

Overall Experience

Overall the Legend of Astravia demo was an enjoyable experience. As someone who enjoys JRPGs, the combat mechanics are fun. The music and ambient soundtrack in the Legends of Astravia demo were nice. The music hits on that 90s early 2000s RPG nostalgia. The story elements the demo showcases are also interesting, and I can’t wait to explore the full game. If you are a fan of 90s and early 2000s JRPGs, you should check out the Legends of Astravia demo while it is available.
