Venba is a narrative cooking game, where you play as an Indian mom (Venba), who immigrates to Canada with her family in the 1980s. I had been following the development of Venba for some time, so I was excited to download the demo.

The Venba Demo Made Me Cry
While the idea of learning about another culture’s foods through a video game was the primary reason I have been interested in the game’s development, the demo changed that. I did not expect this demo to be as relatable as it was.
The conversations between Venba and her husband conveyed emotions that hit on a personal level. I’m honestly glad I did not stream the Venba demo because even trying to write this I’m a mess. There were moments in the demo where I could relate to both Venba and her husband, and those moments ended with me breaking down into tears.
Overall Vibe During the Venba Demo
The sound design is amazing and it really feels like you are in your kitchen cooking. Every sound fit perfectly together, and the art style was beautiful. The glimpse into the cooking mechanics made me want more.
I am definitely the type of person who sees a recipe and will still attempt to wing it. I definitely failed at my first attempt at the recipe in the demo. The third attempt was a lot more successful and the art of the finished product made me so hungry.
I definitely recommend checking out the Venba demo during the Steam Next Fest and adding it to your wishlist. Make sure you have Kleenex nearb
