Of Life & Land Gameplay Overview

In Of Life & Land, players will work to build up their settlement from the ground up by managing resources and villagers. As players expand their settlements, they will also uncover hidden mysteries of the land they call home.

In Of Life & Land, the relationship between villagers and nature is complex. Animals roaming the map will search for food, shelter, and even social groups to survive in the changing landscape. If their habitats are not being taken care of, they will sometimes encroach on farms and storage spaces, looking for their next meal.

In addition to animals and plants, players will need to navigate the changing seasons and unpredictable weather. The different maps in the game also have unique climates, which add their complex season and weather patterns that make building settlements more challenging.

Players can also create unique maps and scenarios using the game’s editor. This allows players to reshape maps, connect waterways, and create new paths for settlers to travel over. They can also link custom maps together in a new world.

Lenzburg Scenario Review

The 1.0 release of Of Life & Land introduces a new historical scenario that highlights the Counts of Lenzburg. This scenario is set in the Central Plateau of medieval Switzerland, and players will attempt to build up their castle and the surrounding settlement and navigate the political climate involving the monarchy and the church. In addition to politics, players can also discover ancient myths hidden around the map.

The Lenzburg scenario introduces new mechanics to Of Life & Land that bring new rewards and challenges. These changes include castle construction, single-city scenarios, advanced trade mechanics, and additional decorative elements.

To construct the castle, players will need to continuously strive to increase the settlement’s prosperity level and gather more resources to make needed castle upgrades. These can be completed in tandem with the historical scenario quests. Even the historical quests are at times optional, and do not have too much of a negative impact on the settlement’s success or scenario completion.

While the Kerzoven map in Of Life & Land from the early access launch has players manage multiple regions, the Lenzburg map focuses on one location. While this scenario does not have a tutorial, players familiar with settlement builders may find the mode relaxing.

Final Thoughts on Of Life & Land

Overall, Of Life & Land is a cozy settlement builder that is a great introduction into the genre, and also gives veteran players a good challenge. Nature plays a huge part in gameplay, and players have the option to overrun or coexist with the creatures and environment around them.

The Lenzburg scenario also introduces several new mechanics to the game that change things up just enough for players who may have spent a good amount of time in the early access. While also adding historical highlights and fantasy elements to interact with.

If you enjoy cozy settlement builders, then you should give Of Life & Land a try. Of Life & Land is currently available on Steam for $24.99, along with a demo.
