Blitz Royale Gameplay Overview

The recent Fortnite update brought new superhero mythics to the Battle Royale modes and a new game mode called Blitz Royale. Blitz Royale is a mobile-gaming focused 32-person Battle Royale that incorporates medallions, boons, and a changing selection of loot.

All players begin a match with the same boss medallion and starting weapon. They must then quickly eliminate the other players while gathering more medallions, boons, and weapons from chests around the map. In addition to floor loot and chests, as players eliminate other players and survive storm circles, their Blitz Level increases, and they are given randomized mythic loot and additional boons.

What’s the Player Experience Like in Blitz Royale?

On average, a squad match of Blitz Royale can last between three and five minutes, depending on the skill level of players in the lobby. In the team mode, knocked-out players can be brought back using a reboot van. Players can also purchase their teammates’ reboot cards at reboot vans like in the regular Battle Royale mode. A great thing to note is that due to the fast pace of Blitz Royale, players will find collecting gold much easier than in the Battle Royale modes.

One downside to this mode is that, currently, matches are very bot-heavy. In squads, we noticed that there would only be an average of two to three real teams, and the rest of the lobby were obvious bots. This made the mode very easy to collect crown wins, from both a casual and competitive player perspective.

Currently, players can attempt Blitz Royale as a solo, duo, or squad. While the option to squad up in trios is not available, it is possible to win matches without a fourth in squads. Blitz Royale is a great mode for casual and more competitive players to try out, especially those players who find themselves occasionally bored in modes with longer match times.

In addition to more experience points going towards players’ Battle Pass rewards, players can also unlock a new skin and glider by playing Blitz Royale. Players who advance ten account levels across all Fortnite modes and manage to reach the top ten in twenty rounds of Blitz Royale will receive the Blitz Knight outfit. Players who earn three Victory Royales in the mode will also receive the Blitz ‘Brella Glider.

Upcoming Updates to the Mode

Currently, Blitz Royale is considered a temporary mode that will last four weeks. Each week for the next four weeks, Blitz Royale will receive updates that will add a new loot pool. Players who may have missed previous season collabs, such as the Avatar: The Last Airbender collab, will get a chance to experience many of the items from these seasons in the new mode.

Blitz Royale Weekly Update Schedule

  • Week 1: Starting on June 18th, players can find weapons and items such as the Rocket Ram and Banana of the Gods, as well as weapons from the current Battle Royale chapter.
  • Week 2: On June 24th, players will start each match with a bending scroll from the Avatar: The Last Airbender collab. Pagodas from each of the four nations will also be on the map.
  • Week 3: July 1st will bring a new version of the Chains of Hades and other powerful boss weapons to the mode.
  • Week 4: The final week of Blitz Royale begins on July 8th, and players will have to battle each other using a melee-focused loot pool. Items such as the Typhoon blade, Nitro Fists, Kneecapper, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles melee items.

Players have until July 15th to try to claim all the Blitz Royale rewards and to try out the mode. Whether Blitz Royale will return to Fortnite is still to be determined.
